Bowden confirms London Irish exit

London Irish fly-half Dan Bowden has confirmed that he will leave the Aviva Premiership side at the end of the season.

Bowden has been strongly linked with a move to Premiership rivals Leicester Tigers but he is yet to confirm where his next port of call will be. If Bowden does opt to move to the Tigers then he will link up with former Crusaders team-mate Thomas Waldrom.

And Bowden confirmed the news on his Twitter account saying: "Want to say big thanks to London Irish fans for their very passionate support. Just want to confirm I'll be leaving at the end of the season.

"It's a club with great people. Humbled to have captained side and to have won players player award. Winning remaining games all that matters.

"Looking forward to a new challenge, seeing some old faces and joining one of the best teams in Europe. Thanks."

If Bowden does complete his move to the Tigers then one man who will not still be at the club is scrum-half James Grindal. The 31-year old was hopeful that he would extend his three year stay at Welford Road but Richard Cockerill has poured cold water on the notion.

"Grinders did really well for us against Newcastle but there are a couple of guys here who are just as good and 10 years younger," Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury. "As a result, James will not be with us next season. He knows that and is a bit disappointed with that."

"James has a young family and, hopefully, he can get sorted with a new club.You saw on Saturday's evidence that he can still play well at this level and, hopefully, that will earn him another contract somewhere else."
