Robert Kubica will take part in the year's WRC2 rally championship with Citroen.

Kubica will drive a Citroen DS3 RRC on seven WRC rallies, as well as a limited number of other European events. He comes to the series off the back of successes in rallies last year and has chosen not to return to circuit racing just yet despite testing a DTM car in January.

"I weighed up the different options before deciding on this programme," he said. "I kept in touch with Citroen Racing and both sides were keen to continue working together. I'm really pleased now to be able to return to top-level racing.

"I can't wait to start racing, but I haven't set myself any specific target. I still have a lot to learn in rallying and to improve I will need to rack up the miles on the stages."

WRC2 runs alongside the full WRC championship and allows competitors to nominate seven rallies in which they can score points, with their best six contributing to their championship points total. It replaces the S2000 category this year and is open to cars complying to R4, R5, Super 2000 and Group N regulations.

Kubica's next rally will be the Rally Islas Canarias - the third round of the FIA European Rally Championship - before he begins his campaign in the WRC2 at the Rally de Portugal in April.
