Hill's son calls time on racing career
Josh Hill - son of 1996 world champion Damon and grandson of two-time world champion Graham - has retired from racing.
Hill had been competing in the FIA European Formula 3 championship this season, and after 15 races was lying in 10th place in the championship. However, at the age of 22, Hill says he has "ambitions in other fields" and is retiring from racing with immediate effect, ending his hopes of becoming the first ever third-generation Formula One world champion.
"Coming from the Hill family it was inevitable that I would be drawn to racing," Hill is quoted by Reuters. "I have learned an enormous amount and really enjoyed the experience, but I do not want to compete unless I am 100 percent devoted. As I now have ambitions in other fields I feel it is the right move to withdraw from racing."
Damon Hill added that he fully supports his son's decision to pursue other interests.
"Being born into a racing dynasty is not something many of us can easily relate to," Damon said. "It is entirely understandable if Josh has to find out if racing is his main calling or not.
"So it is with some sadness that we make this announcement. I'm sure there will be many disappointed 'Hill' fans out there but we hope they will be understanding ... It is sometimes braver to stop than to carry on. He has my total support as always."
