Pirelli announces tyre choices for Spa, Monza and Singapore
Pirelli has announced its compound choices for the Belgian, Italian and Singapore grands prix.
The Italian tyre manufacturer will bring its two hardest compounds to Belgium and Italy in order to deal with the high-speed nature of the two tracks. Spa-Francorchamps puts the highest vertical load on the front tyres all season, mainly due to Eau Rouge corner, while at Monza the tyres are subjected to very high longitudinal forces and blistering can be an issue due to the stress put on the tyres under braking.
In Singapore Pirelli will leave a step between the compounds with the super-soft and mediums on offer around the tight and twisty street circuit.
"The second half of the season starts off with two of the fastest and most demanding races for tyres of the year, in Belgium and Italy," Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery said. "Singapore is a completely different challenge: the final street race of the season, which is ideal territory for the supersoft tyres. As always, our selections have concentrated on providing the best opportunities for strategy as well as the most effective race tyres."
The tyres will continue to feature 2012 structures, which will race with the 2013 compounds for the first time this weekend in Hungary.
