Felipe Massa believes he has the pace to secure his seat at Ferrari next year but just needs to translate that into results at races.

Massa does not have a contract with the Italian team for next year and has had another lacklustre season compared to team-mate Fernando Alonso. He currently has 67 points to Alonso's 151 and has only finished on the podium once at the Spanish Grand Prix.

However, when asked in Belgium if the team had given him any hints at whether he will be kept on next year, he said: "I just need to concentrate on the next race and concentrate on the results. The pace today was positive and I think I showed that I have the pace. If we do everything right in the race, I'm sure we can be competitive at every race. That's important and many races we've had a problem and we didn't finish in the right position but we've had the pace."

Massa is confident Ferrari will become more competitive over the rest of the season after bringing a number of unsuccessful updates to the car before the summer break.

"We need to put new parts on the car for the next race to be more competitive," he added. "We missed some opportunities with pieces that were not working and for sure we lost a little bit of time because of that. In Belgium everything we brought we were using, so that means they were working. I hope we can carry on in this direction and if we do that the car will be better from now until the last race and we can be more competitive than in the first part of the season."
