David Coulthard has yet to agree a deal to race for Mercedes in the German touring car series DTM although all parties are confident it will be sorted in the next few days.

Coulthard, 39, said before last weekend's Melbourne Grand Prix that he wanted to find time to sit down with Mercedes' Norbert Haug and "complete the final details" of the deal.

"We are close," he said. "I'm looking forward to doing a deal for Easter."

It had been expected the details would be done and dusted by now after Coulthard completed successful tests, but rumours of a fall-out between Red Bull and Mercedes over the latter's decision not to supply F1 engines and then its signing with rival drinks brand Monster is believed to have led to delays.

"I have a genuine desire to explore whether I can adapt to this type of car, because it's taking me out of my comfort zone," Coulthard said. "I'm a single-seater guy, and I realise this is a big challenge."
