US F1 has ceased operations, laying off its entire staff indefinitely and closing its factory.

The Charlotte Business Journal reported the news earlier this week after team principal Ken Anderson e-mailed employees with a permanent layoff notice on Thursday, blaming "serious economic and funding challenges."

The report says at least nine employees have filed wage complaints since March, after the team froze payments ahead of the season opener when it was clear it would not make the grid. Anderson's e-mail said employees would be re-hired if business conditions improve and the team can regain entry to the championship in a future season.
