Kamui Kobayashi thinks Caterham has made progress during Tuesday's testing at the Circuit de Catalunya despite a crash towards the end of the session.

Kobayashi crashed at Turn 3 with 20 minutes remaining of the day, but had completed 72 laps up to that point following a wet start to the day. Caterham had a difficult weekend during the Spanish Grand Prix, with Kobayashi's race ending with brake failure and team-mate Marcus Ericsson finishing 20 seconds off his nearest rival.

But despite his accident, Kobayashi believes Caterham made progress on Tuesday.

"The car went into oversteer," he said of the crash. "We changed some setting but I think straight away we had a completely different balance. I think at Turn 3 I hit the wall but I am okay. There is quite a lot of damage to the car so I'm sorry for the guys in the garage who now have a long night ahead to fix the car, but the only good thing is that it was at the end of the day after we'd got through most of the runplan."

"We completed all the programme, so we are happy and the car progressed. We used the same tyre but a little bit more heavy fuel, so I think our time was a little bit quicker than in qualifying. I think it's much better in the car."

Kobayashi said the tyre compound choice for the Spanish Grand Prix had been one of the biggest issues.

"It's not working or something, but I think the tyre is too hard and this is the biggest problem."
