Red Bull still title contenders - Vettel
Sebasitan Vettel insists Red Bull can still deliver a title in 2014 despite failing to beat Mercedes in any race so far this season.
Vettel fell to sixth in the drivers' standings in Monaco after his early retirement, meaning he is already 77 points behind Nico Rosberg, while Red Bull is a massive 151 points adrift of Mercedes in the constructors' championship. Christian Horner believes Red Bull's competitiveness is in the hands of engine supplier Renault and, amidst reports of a major upgrade being planned for the team's home race at the Austrian Grand Prix, Vettel is adamant the team can make it a two-horse race.
"Mathematically we are right in there", Vettel told Austrian media during an event at the Spielberg grand prix circuit on Tuesday. "We are looking at the situation race-by-race. Of course it did not go well recently but we are looking forward to the next races.
"For sure we made progress and this proves we are on the right path. We won't be favourites in the near future, but over a race distance, anything can happen. There are always reasons for setbacks, and I do not believe in bad luck. We just have to sort the problems out."
Vettel also says he finds it amusing how quickly some media outlets have linked him with a move away from Red Bull following his struggle to adapt to the RB10.
"I'm fascinated that journalists react so quickly. It is not long ago that Red Bull had some very successful years. Now we have had six races and we are not so successful and there are already discussions about my future.
"We are still the second force in Formula One, ahead of Ferrari for example, so it could be worse."
