Vergne unconcerned by Toro Rosso future
Jean-Eric Vergne insists he is not worried about his future at Toro Rosso despite the emergence of Daniil Kvyat alongside him.
Vergne's solitary finish in the points this season came in Australia, while rookie Kvyat has been in the top ten on three separate occasions. Red Bull junior driver Carlos Sainz Jr is also impressing in Formula Renault 3.5 and could have a serious case for promotion to F1 if his dominance of that series continues, but Vergne insists he believes in Toro Rosso's faith in him.
When pressed on the fact Toro Rosso has never kept a driver for more than three seasons, the length of time he has been with the team, Vergne told italiaracing: "If the situation is as you say it is, then there is little to do. I'll go home now. Seriously, I do not believe that these situations can be reduced to an evaluation of statistics,.
"At Red Bull and Toro Rosso, they have never been afraid of leaving aside drivers they do not believe in anymore, but if they had lost faith in me I think they would have let me go at the end of last year. If they did not, and I'm still here, it is because they believe in me and my abilities."
Vergne believes Toro Rosso benefits from the strong relationship he has with the team and thinks that has already paid dividends this season.
"My integration with the technical staff of the team has developed significantly and the results show that it is bearing fruit, something that the team takes fully into account. As for me, I feel at home, as if the team is my family, so I don't think they have the intention to pull apart a package that works."
