Lewis Hamilton insists he will be able to catch Nico Rosberg in the world championship after falling 22 points behind his Mercedes team-mate.

The 2008 champion retired from last weekend's Canadian Grand Prix with rear brake failure after his MGU-K overheated and failed. Rosberg suffered the same problem at the same time in the race, but was able to finish second to extend his lead over Hamilton at the top of the drivers' standings.

"I caught up before and I can catch up again," Hamilton said, who was 25 points behind Rosberg when he retired from the first race of the year in Australia.

Hamilton secured four successive wins after the season opener to lead Rosberg by three points prior to Monaco - and he believes he will need the same number of victories to bounce back for a second time.

"It's going to take another four wins to make the difference so I'm going to do my best to get those results," he said.

"Right now, I'm just looking ahead to the next race in Austria and another chance to catch up to the lead.

"Montreal was a bit of a strange one for me. I felt I had the pace right from the beginning of the weekend, but things just never quite came together. It's frustrating when these things are out of your hands. The two DNF's so far this season have not been ideal but that's racing and there's a long, long way to go."
