Takuma Sato has become the latest ex-F1 driver set to compete in Formula E by signing with Aguri, who he drove for between 2006 and 2008.

Sato has been signed in time to compete in the all-electrical series' inaugural race weekend, which takes place in Beijing this weekend (September 13-14). He replaces Antonio Felix da Costa, who is confirmed for the team but is unable to compete at the weekend due to DTM commitments.

Sato has been competing in IndyCar since 2010 and tested the team's Formula E car at Donington Park last month.

"I'm very much looking forward to making history with Amlin Aguri as we compete in the first ever Formula E race," said Sato. "I'm excited to join the team especially reconnecting with good old friends from Super Aguri F1 team days and going racing together again. I'll be pushing hard to make sure we're doing our absolute best in Beijing.

"Racing electric cars is something fascinating and it will take motorsport into a new direction and I'm thrilled to be playing a part in these early stages."

In joining for the opener Sato takes the number of F1 alumni competing in Formula E to 10.
