Fernando Alonso's manager says his driver will remain in hospital for as long as doctors deem necessary and could not say whether he will take part in this week's test in Barcelona.

Alonso is recovering from a concussion sustained during an accident on the final morning of last week's test at the Circuit de Catalunya. A strong gust of wind caused him to lose control in the high-speed Turn 3 and spat his car into the inside barrier on the run down to Turn 4.

Alonso is making a "solid recovery" but his manager Luis Garcia Abad said there would be no rush to get him discharged from hospital.

"He will remain here the time that we need to be sure that everything is fine," Abad said. "The impact was quite hard and we want to be sure that everything is fine. I can't say is it is one, two or three days more."

Abad made clear that F1 is and always has been a risky business.

"F1 is not a game, we have to be sure that he is ready to drive the car at the right time because we want to be competitive to the last race of the season."

Asked if Alonso would be back in the car for this week's test, Abad added: "The most important test at the moment is the tests the doctors are doing. The rest of the tests are just tests, we have to be ready for the races."
