The 1997 Formula One world champion Jacques Villeneuve returns to action in the NASCAR Nationwide series this weekend and has signalled his intention to return to racing on a regular basis.

The Canadian has been repeatedly linked with a return to F1 and came close to securing a drive this season, but Stefan GP failed to gain a place on the grid.

The Canadian is intent on pressing ahead with his plans to drive in 2011 and although aware it will be tough to earn a seat with a top team, he does not want to be an also-ran.

"I have been away from full-season racing for a few years," he said ahead of the NASCAR race at Road America. "I was busy raising kids, and that's actually more work than racing.

"Now the plan is to get behind the wheel full-time to get racing - and race at the front, obviously, and to get in the winner's circle."
