Bernie Ecclestone thinks the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) has no place in F1 and believes the idea of teams working together is fundamentally flawed.

FOTA was formed in 2008 to give teams a united voice in the decision making processes of the sport. Last year it threatened to create a breakaway series during a row with the FIA and Formula One Management, but eventually settled on a new Concorde Agreement.

Amid rumours that a new battle between FOTA and FOM is hotting up, with teams ordered to remove sponsor-branded trucks from the Silverstone paddock, Ecclestone has said FOTA will struggle to remain united.

"It [FOTA] will never work because it is made up of teams that fight against each other on the circuit," Ecclestone La Gazzetta dello Sport. "When the teams discuss the rules, everyone tries to benefit. The teams wanted to divide F1, but now they understand that it is good to give importance to the money that they get [from FOM]. There is no space for FOTA..."

In the same interview Ecclestone said that Formula One could lose a team in 2011, despite a number of hopefuls lining up for the 13th grid slot in the sport.

"I would be glad," he said. "There is a long list of teams that want to be in Formula One. Whether they have the ability and the resources is another story."
