Ben Collins has been outed as BBC Top Gear's White Stig, according to several national newspapers.
Collins started his motor racing career in 1994 in Formula First, moving on to Formula Vauxhall Junior and then International Formula 3. It is claimed he took over from Perry McCarthy in 2003 after McCarthy revealed his identity in his book Flat Out, Flat Broke.
Collins has appeared on Top Gear as himself on various occasions to perform some dramatic stunts. He has also worked on films, including the James Bond movie The Quantum of Solace, and has widespread media experience.
A Health & Safety Executive report into presenter Richard Hammond's accident in September 2006 said Collins "worked closely with Top Gear as a high performance driver and consultant" and had prepared a briefing for the presenter.
The BBC has never revealed White Stig's identity and has stated there could be as many as four different Stigs.
