Button eyes back-to-back titles

Just days after winning his first championship, Jenson Button has set his sights on a second. The newly-crowned world champion has vowed to do what no British driver has ever done before and successfully defend his title.

With Lewis Hamilton missing out on the 2007 title by one point on the final day of his debut season, before going on to win the championship in 2008, many tipped the McLaren driver to achieve the feat. But it was fellow Brit Button in the Brawn team who stormed to six victories in the first seven races to help steer Brawn to the constructors' championship in their inaugural season.

The newly-crowned champion insists there is more to come from both him and his team. "No British driver has ever won back-to-back titles - so that's an ambition," said Button. "This team is not a one-hit wonder and neither am I. It's great to win the world championship and every person that's done it will tell you that but to be able to defend it is exceptional."

Jackie Stewart is the most successful British driver of all time, winning three championships between 1969 and 1973, but on all three occasions he failed to defend his crown. Only five men have successfully defended a world title since 1960, and if he were to successfully defend his title, Button would join the prestigious list alongside Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Mika Hakkinen, Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso.
