Bernie Ecclestone has indicated that he has no plans to retire despite preparing to celebrate his 80th birthday next week.

Ecclestone has played a major role in the commercial side of the sport since 1978 and is currently Formula One Management's CEO. In recent years he has focused on bringing F1 to new markets, including South Korea at this weekend's grand prix, and controlling the balance of power between the teams and the FIA.

In a recent interview he made clear that he is not ready to step down from his position.

"If I stop working, I cannot solve problems any more," he told Bild am Sonntag. "If I'm not solving problems, that's the beginning of the end. So I work. And I like to work."

Asked how the F1 teams should detect his successor on the horizon, the Briton answered: "I have no idea. They should probably look out for another used car dealer."
