Formula One's global television audience increased to 527 million viewers in 2010 with growth in nine out of the 11 largest markets.

The close nature of the title race helped boost the overall audience, and there is confidence that with an extra grand prix in 2011- the Indian Grand Prix debuts in October - the figure will continue to rise.

Furthermore, Formula One will finally start broadcasting in HD this year with all sessions being made available to broadcast partners.

"It was a particularly strong year for Formula One's European audience, with many of FOM's broadcast partners reporting their highest race audiences in a number of seasons," the official Formula One website said.

Bernie Ecclestone added: "Whilst 2010 delivered some great things, 2011 promises even more as Formula One seeks to build upon the foundations laid in our emerging markets and enthral our audiences across the world."
