Sebastian Vettel has said that his relationship with Fernando Alonso 'did have some problems'.

The pair were championship rivals in 2010 as Vettel took the title at the last race, and are likely to be battling it out again this year. But in an interview with La Stampa Vettel revealed the situation has improved.

"The event was judged by outsiders wrongly, and Fernando and I have since spoken and our relationship is now good," he said. "Two people can have different ideas but still respect each other."

Alonso has previously admitted that he is "not racing to make friends", and the reigning world champion confirmed he received no congratulations after his victory.

"No. Nothing in Abu Dhabi. In Monte Carlo [for the FIA prize giving] he shook my hand. That's normal, if you win others are disappointed and some need five minutes to move past it, others two weeks."

Vettel continues to be linked with a move to Ferrari, but insisted that he was content at Red Bull for the time being.

"I have a contract with Red Bull this season and an option for 2012. After that, you never know what can happen," he said. "Right now I'm happy where I am."
