Wurz asks GPDA to help Japan

Alex Wurz will ask the Grand Prix Drivers Association (GPDA) to provide support to the survivors of last week's devastating tsunami in Japan.

Many drivers have already used Twitter to express their concern at the state of events in the country, with some offering sympathy following testing in Barcelona. And now Wurz - who drove for Benetton, McLaren and Williams - has pledged to contact the GPDA to organise support.

"I will help and call [the] GPDA [as soon as possible] to get all F1 drivers united and come up with support, all F1 drivers love Japan!" Wurz wrote on his Twitter page.

A number of drivers spoke of their shock following testing last week, with Kamui Kobayashi saying: "Now all my thoughts are with the people in Japan. My country has suffered an enormous catastrophe. The news is depressing and I'm very sad. I can't really put in words what I feel."

Sakon Yamamoto used Twitter to inform Wurz of his and Kobayashi's willingness to "do something positive for Japan", while Karun Chandhok mooted the idea of an F1 auction. Many drivers donated items for a similar cause when Italy suffered an earthquake in its Abruzzo region in 2009.
