Lauda savages 'crazy' DRS idea
Formula One great Niki Lauda has hit out at the introduction of DRS, claiming overtaking should be left to the talent of the drivers alone.
The Drag Reduction System was launched at the opening race of the season in Melbourne last week, but it was an underwhelming start with teams critical of the overtaking zone. FIA race director Charlie Whiting has said that the governing body will analyse the effectiveness of DRS after the Chinese Grand Prix.
Lauda feels the FIA should go a step further than a review and scrap the ideal altogether.
"The wing is the most stupid idea," the three-time world champion told Sport1. "Overtaking should be done by the drivers themselves and decided by them and not by the FIA with green lights in the cockpit telling them to fold their wings down or up.
"I would never have introduced this. It is certainly the most crazy idea ever invented."
