Mercedes GP CEO Nick Fry has confirmed rumours that all the Formula One teams are hoping to hold a joint launch in Valencia next year.

The event is likely to be held in late January, just before the first official test of the year at the city's permanent circuit. The Formula One Teams Association (FOTA) is set to meet in Monaco to finalise the plans as well as discussing other issues relating to the 2010 season. Fry said he couldn't go into details but revealed negotiations were at an advanced stage.

"We have agreed between all the teams to do a joint launch," he said at the motorsport business forum. "We do wish to turn it into a proper event and we are getting a lot of help from the venue and investment in communication and marketing to do that.

"At the moment I wouldn't wish to spill the beans on what we are going to do, but it is going to be hugely innovative. It is going to be a clear demonstration of how we are going to be working together. We are not all going off and doing our own individual launches, so we can do something that is a lot more customer friendly."

However, Lotus boss Tony Fernandes told Reuters that the current date for the event could rule his team out: "I won't have a car at that time. I could come with a Matchbox car."
