Despite a recent medical scare, reigning and multiple MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi began his test in a 2008-spec Ferrari single seater at Barcelona on Wednesday.

The test was put in doubt last week when Rossi was forced to go to hospital with what turned out to be an inflamed appendix. However, he reported fit after a course of antibiotics.

To adhere with the current F1 testing ban, Rossi's car is being operated by the separate F1 Clienti department, and is fitted with GP2-spec slicks, Ferrari confirmed. It also said his two-day run at the Circuit de Catalunya began in "adverse weather conditions".
