Lotus is currently seeking permission from the other teams to run an extra day of testing to replace the three it has missed this week due to a chassis problem.

Lotus pulled out of this week's test at the high-speed Circuit de Catalunya after discovering an unspecified problem on its brand-new chassis. The team originally planned to swap the new E20-02 chassis with the E20-01 used at Jerez, but then decided work needed to be carried out on both back at Enstone.

Mercedes was allowed to run a private day of testing at Barcelona in lieu of the one it opted to miss at the end of the Jerez test and Lotus immediately started looking into a similar agreement when it pulled out of this week's test.

On Tuesday team principal Eric Boullier said he was confident his team would resolve the issue with its new car: "We have quickly identified the issue with the chassis and our design office has already devised a solution."
