Group Lotus CEO Dany Bahar has been suspended in order for a complaint about his conduct to be investigated.

Bahar was a driving force behind Group Lotus's link up with what is now the Lotus F1 team, although the car company's sponsorship deal has since been terminated. The deal was supposed to help promote the brand as Bahar embarked on an ambitious plan to extend the Lotus car range to compete with the likes of Porsche.

However, earlier this year Group Lotus' parent company, Proton, was sold to the Malaysian automotive group DRB Hicom, which put some of the plans on hold and today revealed that Bahar has been suspended.

"Group Lotus plc ("Lotus") can today confirm that, following an operational review, chief executive Dany Bahar has been temporarily suspended from his role to facilitate an investigation into a complaint about his conduct made by Lotus' penultimate parent company, DRB-Hicom Berhad," a statement said.

Bahar was due to make an appearance at the Monaco Grand Prix on Friday at the opening of a Lotus Originals shop but did not attend.
