The universally popular Angry Birds franchise has expanded into the world of motorsport with the release of a version of the game loosely linked to Formula One.

"The game play is the same, you still catapult birds with a variety of special powers to destroy structures containing pigs," reported the Wall Street Journal. "But the latest addition … [is] loosely tied to the tracks used in the Formula One championships.

The Flash-based game can be found at heikki.angrybirds.com. After registering, usersd are given access to the level or track corresponding to the next race. That is currently Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.

The news comes on the back of Rovio's sponsorship of Finnish driver Heikki Kovalainen. Users have to visit Kovalainen's Facebook page to collect power-ups to maximise their scores.
