Alonso distances himself from politics

Fernando Alonso has dismissed Helmut Marko's claim that he involved himself too much in politics towards the end of the 2012 season.

Marko claimed that Sebastian Vettel had the edge over Alonso because he paid no attention to the comments coming out of the Ferrari team, while Alonso involved himself in political games. However, while team principal Stefano Domenicali said that Alonso would respond with performances on track, Alonso aimed a reply at Marko.

Red Bull's advisor claimed that "Vettel ignores it all ... we concentrate on our job", but Alonso said the fact that Marko brought the topic up means he is contradicting himself.

"I don't think I am good at politics, I just drive the car," Alonso said. "Some recent remarks have surprised me, but I can't see the sense in them. Some say they don't read them, don't hear them and don't see them, before adding that they are not influenced by them: so clearly they do read them, maybe at night…"
