Felipe Massa believes there is still "a big opportunity" for him to remain at Ferrari next year.

The Brazilian's seat in Formula One is in doubt after another lacklustre series of results while team-mate Fernando Alonso challenges for the lead of the championship. Ferrari insists it is in no rush to make a decision about its 2014 driver line-up and Massa is confident he is still a strong candidate.

"A good result is always important so I will just concentrate on that," he said. "There is a big opportunity to carry on with Ferrari so I will just concentrate on that and do the best I can with the car."

Massa said his experience at Ferrari would go a long way even if his results do not match the team's expectations.

"You cannot forget that Ferrari knows me very well and is the team that knows me most," he added. "We know how important experience is next year when everything starts from zero, with different cars and different rules. You can't just look at the results from races [when making a decision], what counts more is everything together and it's always important to do the maximum weekend."
