Fernando Alonso says he agrees with Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo that the new era of Formula One needs to be improved for fans of the sport.

Last week Montezemolo called for a crisis meeting to correct the "wrong turn" taken by F1, a reference to the new regulations for 2014, which he hopes will steer the sport in a different direction. Alonso feels similar to his Ferrari boss and thinks the exciting spectacle in Canada is something the sport should strive for on a regular basis.

"I think the president is right in terms of the show we have put on this year has not been good enough in some of the races," Alonso said. "Also, when one team is dominating as much as Mercedes the spectators would prefer more action, as they liked in Canada - which everybody seemed to enjoy.

"We will try and put on a better show in the next races and if the teams or the fans have any ideas they will be welcomed to have a better show."

Alonso says he understands the importance of cutting costs but thinks the limited time drivers have to test is an example of why it is having an impact on what the drivers are able to deliver.

"Obviously this is the way the sport has been going for the last couple of years, reducing the tests more and more. It has some good things and some bad things. Probably the cost is the good thing, the teams can save a lot of money and we have more teams that can survive year after year and have a good grid.

"On the other hand this is the only sport in the world where you cannot train ... There is no possibility to test at any test and that is a unique thing in our sport unfortunately. But I understand the cost problem and if they decide this it is because it is the best decision."

Alonso thinks the return of KERS and copying recent technical changes from MotoGP - which now allows certain outfits to use softer tyres and more fuel in races - could be beneficial to the spectacle.

"The costs are the biggest thing. All the ideas you have are closely related to the costs and it is not an easy thing. In my opinion KERS [deployment] should come back to our cars. We have the electric [boost] but we do not have the extra boost to help in overtaking - now we all use the same energy in the same places, so it is impossible to overtake.

"The tyres are a big thing, and a tyre competition it would mix things. We could help the small teams like in MotoGP, and give them a different tyre or fuel in the race, so maybe take an idea from other sports."
