Vettel keen to stick with new helmet design
Sebastian Vettel is toying with the idea of sticking with the same helmet design for an entire season now he has joined Ferrari.
The four-time world champion went through many helmets at Red Bull after getting into the habit or 'retiring' designs after winning while wearing them. On his first day of testing with Ferrari he was sporting a simple white design with a line representing the colours of the German flag.
"It's my first helmet design for 15 years that hasn't got a Red Bull on the side, so it's definitely something that was a difficult decision," he said. "I tried to keep it very simple and will try to also stick with a helmet and not change that often."
Another quirk of Vettel's character is to name his cars every year, but he does not feel like he has spent enough time with his new Ferrari to pin down a name just yet.
"I usually decide fairly late," he said.
He said he had always wanted to race for Ferrari and had toyed with the idea before while he was at Red Bull.
"I was dreaming about racing in a Ferrari way early on, but at that stage I was still doing go-karts and F1 was far away and so was Ferrari. It does definitely feel like something special, and obviously when you hang around in the paddock you get to know people and you talk about all sorts of things including your future. I think it's natural to keep your eyes and ears open and use your relationships to check out your options and at the end of last year the time felt right for a change."
