Ferrari preparing 'unbeatable structure'

Stefano Domenicali says Ferrari is "laying the groundwork for an unbeatable structure" as it looks towards the 2012 season.

Ferrari was off the pace at the start of 2011, and despite closing the gap after making changes to the technical department it still only has one race victory to its name this year. Ahead of its home grand prix at Monza, Domenicali said that the team was in the early stages of a rebuilding process to get back to winning on a much more consistent basis.

"We are laying the groundwork for an unbeatable structure," he told La Repubblica. "[Fernando] Alonso believes in it. He is in the heart of his career and has signed with us to 2016, which is not something a winner would do if he was not convinced."

When asked about his tenure compared to predecessor Jean Todt, Domenicali said the years of dominance in the early 2000s was down to stability.

"He (Todt) won a lot, but he had time to create a winning team with an outstanding balance. That is also my goal."

Domenicali also admitted that another poor start to a season would not be tolerated, and said that full focus would switch to 2012 after the Singapore Grand Prix later this month.

"We have a specific package for Monza and some small improvements for Singapore," Domenicali is quoted by Sky Italia. "After that, the car won't be changed, because in Maranello we are working on the 2012 project. The goal is being competitive from the very first race, because we can't afford a bad start."
