Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo is still banging the drum for third cars and more in-season testing in Formula One, and believes performance is currently too dependent on aerodynamics.

Montezemolo has long been a proponent of big teams like Ferrari running third cars, and at Monza over the weekend said the best solution would be for the frontrunners to give competitive cars to smaller teams.

"I still believe it is a good idea, as it was in the past and would be today, if the big teams could give a car to the smaller teams," he said. "It would certainly produce more competition and would provide an opportunity to run young drivers as well as representing a clear cost saving."

He also said Formula One should aim to restrict the influence of aerodynamics on car performance, while he wants to see computer simulation work replaced by the return in-season track testing - which is set to happen on a small scale next year.

"The current Formula One is still too dependent on aerodynamics and cutting out testing during the season has put too much emphasis on simulation work," he added. "At the mid-point of the last decade, there was definitely too much testing, but now we have gone in the completely opposite direction."

And he confirmed that he is not planning to make any major changes to Ferrari's top personnel, despite Chris Dyer and Aldo Costa being pushed aside in the past year.

"I have for a long time supported the idea of dynamic stability, which means that while one can always change some pawns, the front line is covered and it's working very well," he said.
