Felipe Massa says the Ferrari F2012 is "definitely better" this week at Barcelona than it was at last test at Jerez.

Massa was last in the car on the second day of testing and it has since completed four days in the hands of Fernando Alonso. But while Ferrari continues to "acquire data on the behaviour of the new car", its rivals are working on race simulations and car set-up. Nevertheless, Massa said Ferrari is now making progress.

"The car is definitely better compared to Jerez and we are beginning to define how we must move forward to continue to improve," he said. "I ran all the time on the hardest tyres and I am reasonably pleased with the work we did. Tomorrow, I will try the other compounds and we will work on fine tuning the car."

However, with a few reliability issues still present, Massa said it was important for Ferrari to start matching the kind of mileage its rivals are racking up.

"It will be important to do a lot of kilometres over these final five days to be as well prepared as possible for the first race of the season."
