Luca di Montezemolo has challenged Ferrari to use Fernando Alonso's victory in the Malaysian Grand Prix as "the starting point" to a successful season.

The win in changeable conditions put Alonso on top of the drivers' championship after two races, five points clear of Lewis Hamilton. It comes after a difficult winter in which Ferrari has been clearly off the pace of the leading teams, with the F2012 unable to challenge for victory in dry conditions in Australia.

While team principal Stefano Domenicali and Alonso himself have been quick to play down expectations following the victory, Montezemolo has called on Ferrari to use it as the catalyst for more progress.

"This victory must not be an isolated one, but rather the starting point to a season in which we want to be the best," Montezemolo told Ferrari employees at Maranello. "To succeed, we have to be the best in our daily work in every sector. We know there is a lot to do, but we also know it's not impossible."
