Ferrari technical director Pat Fry says that there is more to come from Ferrari's F2012 as it embarks on a "constant drive for updating" the car.

Fernando Alonso's second place in Barcelona in the updated car raised hopes that Ferrari has become significantly more competitive. Fry admitted that the car was improved but told the official Ferrari website that the team still needs to make a lot of progress - some of which may be found by maximising the potential of the new parts.

"I think most of them (the updates) worked as expected," Fry said. "There are a few things that we're still looking at now trying to understand if they're working to the right level. I think all of the bits added performance - some just a little bit less than we were expecting - so all in all I think everyone's reasonably happy with the update we made. Obviously we've still got a long way to go; we've just got to keep on working at a similar rate.

"It's just going to be a constant drive for updating like everyone does these days. We've got a different rear wing and front wing package for Canada - which is obviously a slightly different downforce level - and then we're still working on the exhaust system. There'll be versions of that we'll test; we learnt a lot at the start of the year in understanding the problems that we had from that and we had another go at Mugello as some people would have seen. So I think we've got a good understanding now, but we're just trying to put the performance on the car as quickly as we can. It will be a constant drive all the way through to the last race."

Looking ahead to Monaco specifically, Fry said the main target would be to maximise track time and confirmed there would be "a few more small updates" on the car.

"Monaco is more about downforce and less about efficiency and engine power. You need the most downforce and you just need a consistent car. I think you can watch the lap times improve in practice and a lot of the time comes from the driver learning the circuit and just getting used to the circuit. So you just need a good, clean practice session and laps to try and get the driver used to the circuit.

"We're obviously working to try and achieve that. We've got a few more small updates that add a little bit more downforce to the car. I think the most interesting thing will be how each car uses its tyres."
