Perez 'often lets himself down by being too aggressive'
The head of the Ferrari Driver Academy - Luca Baldisserri - says that Sergio Perez "often lets himself down by being too aggressive".
Perez has been receiving praise this week for his drive to third place in the Canadian Grand Prix, but prior to that Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo said he wasn't ready for a Ferrari drive due to a lack of experience and results. Now it transpires that Ferrari actually spoke to Perez following the Monaco Grand Prix in order to try and get him to be more controlled.
After highlighting his weakness, Baldisserri told the official Ferrari website that he was pleased with the response in Canada which showed that Perez had taken the comments on board.
"After Monaco, we had a discussion with Sergio," Baldisserri said. "We wanted to find out why recent results had not lived up to expectations after the Malaysian Grand Prix. Perez is undoubtedly talented, but he often lets himself down by being too aggressive which, especially in Formula 1, does not deliver results.
"The Montreal race was a great response, a race in which Sergio not only ran at a great pace, but also managed his race very well, managing to stay on track for fifty laps on the same set of tyres."
