Ivan Gazidis has insisted Arsene Wenger has the green light to enter the transfer market, but will not put Arsenal's future in jeopardy by spending beyond the club's means.

Arsenal fans have grown frustrated by the club's continued failure to pick up silverware and there have been calls for Wenger to spend big.

Gunners chief executive Gazidis, who would not be drawn to comment on the futures of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas other than to back Wenger's stance, is keen for Wenger to add quality to the ranks.

"We do have money we can spend," Gazidis told Sky Sports News. "The challenge is different for us to the other teams as we do not have players coming to the end of their careers in positions where there are holes. What we have to do is find players who can improve on some of the positions we have and add to the depth.

"We want to be winners and there is a relentless focus on doing the things needed to do that. We also have to do them within the bounds of a sensible football club."

Arsenal will have to negotiate their way through a qualifier in order to reach the Champions League, but Gazidis has insisted that will have no bearing on their transfer dealings. He said: "We have not seen that an issue with the targets we have."

When asked for his stance on the futures of Nasri and Fabregas, who have been strongly linked with moves, Gazidis said: "We don't conduct our business in public and I am not going to throw my voice into the mix. Arsene has been very clear on these subjects and I will leave the voice of Arsenal to be his."
