Arsenal midfielder Denilson has confirmed he will leave the Emirates to play for Sao Paulo on loan next season.

The Brazil international struggled to earn a first-team place during the last campaign, and with Aaron Ramsey back from a serious injury competition for places is even more intense.

Denilson was the most vocal of Arsenal's players at the end of a disappointing season that saw them lose the Carling Cup final to Birmingham, and finish fourth in the league when the Premier League had looked within their grasp. The 23-year-old labelled the year "catastrophic", whilst claiming he would look for a club away from Arsenal.

That search has eventually proved successful, although his exit from north London will only be a temporary one as he heads back to Brazil on loan.

"I will be playing in Brazil next season as I felt that this is a good opportunity for me to play regular first-team football," Denilson told the club's official website. "I move away with sadness because I have so many friends at Arsenal and everyone has always been so supportive towards me.

"I want to say thank you to the club, and of course, also a big thank you to all the Arsenal fans who are very special. I'm now focused on doing well in Brazil next season, but will always be looking out for the Arsenal results.

"It is a great club with many great players, a good team spirit and a top-class manager. I wish you well for next season."
