Inter Milan coach Gian Piero Gasperini was allusive when questioned about Wesley Sneijder's future on Saturday, following a report that Manchester City are poised to sign the Netherlands international.

A morning report in Gazzetta dello Sport ran a story claiming Manchester City were set to land Sneijder, 27, for a fee of €36 million (£31.4m) despite the playmaker being heavily linked with their rivals Manchester United.

The report was specific in some of its detail, claiming Sneijder would play his last game for Inter in the Italian Super Cup against AC Milan, a game Inter lost 2-1. It also said the Dutch creator would be paid €6 million per year.

City have since played down the speculation, but Gasperini certainly did not deny reports following Saturday's match in Beijing.

"Wesley Sneijder? We'll see. I don't know," said Gasperini. "We'll think about it next week if there is this development."

Gasperini was speaking after Inter's 2-1 loss against Milan in Beijing. Sneijder had opened the scoring with a terrific free-kick only for goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Kevin-Prince Boateng to turn the game on its head.
