Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called for clarity from UEFA over its rules regarding touchline bans.

Wenger served a one-match touchline ban on Tuesday during Arsenal's 1-0 Champions League first leg win over Udinese. However, footage showed Wenger seemingly passing messages via first-team coach Boro Primorac to his assistant manager Pat Rice, who took charge for the match.

UEFA could now charge Wenger if it deems the Frenchman broke the rules, despite claims from Wenger he was told by the governing body that the passing of messages during the match was permitted.

Wenger told Arsenal Player: "It was very difficult because you don't know really what the rules are. They told us first that, through my assistant, he can communicate. And after half-time, it was not like that.

"It is a real concern because up to what level can you stop somebody doing his job? We tried to respect the rules and the rules are set by UEFA.

"But, of course, it is very difficult to see where you can stop a person having an influence. You cannot go to the dressing room - that's how I understand it and I didn't do it."
