QPR's Parker bid ridiculed by West Ham

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan has laughed off QPR's £4 million bid for England international midfielder Scott Parker.

QPR are set to be major players in the final fortnight of the transfer window following the takeover by Tony Fernandes, who is targeting several new recruits.

The need for QPR to strengthen was brutally highlighted on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, when they were thumped 4-0 at home by Bolton Wanderers.

However, they will need to double their offer for Parker if they are to attract the 30-year-old to the club. "[The offer is] ridiculously low," Sullivan said to the Daily Mirror. "We see it as a cheap publicity stunt. It's a bit like us bidding £12m for Wayne Rooney."

Although Parker is known to be pressing for a transfer away from Upton Park, Sullivan is willing to let the Hammers carry the burden of his wages this season if their valuation is not met.

"We hope Scott is our player on September 1," added Sullivan. "But we respect the fact that he has given us four great years of service.

"We also respect the fact he wants to move to a Premier League club to protect his position in the England team. But unless we receive our valuation, he won't be sold."
