Parker requests transfer as Spurs move nears

England international Scott Parker has handed in a transfer request at West Ham as he aims to force through a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Parker is poised to complete a transfer to White Hart Lane before the transfer window closes, as Spurs boss Harry Redknapp confirmed to Sky Sports News: "It's very, very close. I don't think it's too far away now. Hopefully it will get done today [Tuesday]."
The midfielder has played a part in the Hammers' successful start to the Championship season, but always looked set to leave the club for Premier League football, which he feels is crucial to the health of his international career.
In a statement, Parker said: "I have had a fantastic four years at West Ham and will never forget all the support I have had from fans and everyone associated with the club. The manager and board have tried hard to convince me to stay but at this stage in my career, I need to be playing in the Premier League, especially now I am involved with England.
"I hope the fans will understand and respect my decision and I wish the club every success in their fight for promotion this season."
Spurs have cleared room in their squad for Parker's arrival by allowing midfield anchor Wilson Palacios to speak to Stoke City.
Meanwhile, Redknapp confirmed that right back Alan Hutton could be set for a loan switch to Aston Villa after the Midlands side let Luke Young join QPR. "Alan's a good player," he said. "He's been away playing for Scotland and (Villa boss) Alex McLeish knows him, so it may well be a possibility I suppose."
