Tottenham have finally completed the transfer of midfielder Scott Parker from West Ham.

The England international ultimately had to hand in a transfer request to force the move through, but will now join up with his new team-mates as he returns to the Premier League.

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with West Ham United for the permanent transfer of Scott Parker," a Tottenham club statement said.

Parker, who has previously played for Charlton, Chelsea and Newcastle, may well have missed out on a lucrative loyalty payment by submitting a transfer request, but felt he had to leave in order to achieve his ambitions.

"I have had a fantastic four years at West Ham United and will never forget all the support I have had from the fans and everyone associated with the club," Parker said, when confirming his transfer request. "The manager and board have tried hard to convince me to stay but at this stage in my career, I need to be playing in the Premier League, especially now that I am involved with England.

"I hope the fans will understand and respect my decision and I wish the club every success in their fight for promotion this season."
