Mickelson into golf's Hall of Fame

Four-time major champion Phil Mickelson has been elected to Golf's Hall of Fame at the first time of asking.
The 40-year-old, who has won 39 times worldwide during his professional career and at one stage was ranked No. 2 in the world, received 72 per cent of votes in the first year of his eligibility for the Hall. Players need 65 per cent to be admitted.
"Being called a Hall of Fame golfer, it does make me sound a little bit old,'' Mickelson said, while competing at the Singapore Open. "But I don't feel old. I feel like I've got a lot of great golf ahead of me.''
The American noted his remaining career aims include winning another 11 tournaments - taking him to 50 for his career.
"He is clearly one of the most exciting players ever to play the game,'' PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said. "He's exactly what you like to see in a player."
Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples, Davis Love III and Mark O'Meara all narrowly missed out on this occasion.
Mickelson will be formally inducted at a ceremony in Florida on May 7 next year.
