Phil Mickelson believes it is only a matter of time before former world No. 1 Tiger Woods returns to the top of the world rankings.

Woods, who has not won a title in nearly two years, has slumped outside the world's top 50 after revelations surrounding his private life prompted him to take a break from the sport, before struggling with a series of injuries and lack of form.

But the 14-time major champion showed real signs of a revival at the Australian Open in Sydney, finishing two shots behind winner Greg Chalmers, and his Ryder Cup team-mate Mickelson, playing in the Singapore Open, admits Woods' return to form is inevitable.

"I've played with him a couple of times throughout the year, watched him hit it and you can tell that his swing speed has come back," Mickelson said. "So I don't know when it will all click and he'll be back to his normal self but I feel like it's inevitable that he will get back there because he seems to keep getting better and better."

Mickelson, who will be inducted into golf's Hall of Fame next year, will have the chance to inspect Woods' form first hand next week, when the pair will join forces in Australia for the Presidents Cup team event in Melbourne, where the Americans will be looking to claim a fourth straight title over their International opponents.
