Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has intimated he would be interested in succeeding Fabio Capello as England's next manager.

Benitez has been out of work since leaving Inter Milan last season and has admitted interest from clubs in the Premier League has gone a little cold.

His name has popped up in connection with succeeding Capello, who will vacate his role after Euro 2012, and the Spaniard has admitted his knowledge of the game in England would stand him in good stead.

"I have to be careful with the answer," Benitez told Sky Sports News in response to his interest in the England job. "I have been asked about the big jobs and they are always a challenge for any manager.

"We have to wait. I prefer not to say too much, but I have some experience and am around in England; happy here.

"I have some knowledge of the country and the league and the players and that is good always."
