Thierry Henry has agreed to join Arsenal on a two-month loan deal, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

The Gunners' record goalscorer, who left for Barcelona in 2007, has been training with Arsenal since the MLS season ended, and is to provide cover for Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho, who will be heading to the African Cup of Nations next month.

Speaking ahead of the Gunners' match against QPR on Saturday, Wenger said the deal "will certainly happen". The New York Red Bulls player is waiting for paperwork to be completed before he can finalise a return to the club. He is expected to be available until the beginning of March.

"For two months it certainly will happen," Wenger said. "I don't take care of the agreement and insurance and that is not completed. We cannot announce anything because the paperwork is not done.

"To cover for two months is ideal. He has the experience and the quality. He knows the club and can help the players on and off the pitch. He has exceptional talent and is a very intelligent man. It can only be positive.

"He still has class, pace and quality. He is here to help the club he loves. But we must not put too much pressure on him, he is 34. He needs two good weeks' work. He is here to help - not suddenly be the main player."

Henry could feature in seven Premier League games, as well as FA Cup ties and the Champions League last-16 match with AC Milan.
