Aston Villa are pushing to sign LA Galaxy striker Robbie Keane on a two-month loan deal, according to widespread reports. Keane will be in England training with Tottenham, his former club, until January 21.

Villa boss Alex McLeish is eager to bolster his options upfront following Monday's 2-0 loss at home to Swansea, which ended with irate fans questioning his management of the club.

He is a known admirer of Keane and came close to signing him last season when in charge at Birmingham, only for the deal to collapse over personal terms. Keane, then of Tottenham, went on to join West Ham on loan before heading to Los Angeles last summer.

LA Galaxy have recently allowed star forward Landon Donovan to join Everton on a short-term deal in the MLS off-season, while previously they have been willing to let out David Beckham.

Villa striker Darren Bent has been linked with a move to Liverpool - but, with McLeish insisting the England international is not up for sale, it is unlikely Keane will be used as a temporary replacement.
