Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has confirmed his interest in Marseille forward Loic Remy.

Redknapp said at the start of the transfer window that he would not be an active player, but did add a footnote by claiming he could be tempted to spend if a player who could 'make a difference' became available.

Spurs were linked with a move for Remy at the end of last year, as part of a swap deal involving Roman Pavlyuchenko. Such a deal may be favoured by Tottenham - as Marseille are likely to demand a fee well in excess of £20 million for Remy.

Redknapp has given little away with regard to a bid, but confirmed he is an admirer of the France international - having come across him a couple of years ago.

"He's a good player," Redknapp said. "He's a player we like and there's interest there.

"We could have had him a couple of years back. He was pushed on me, he was a player we looked at a couple of times, but he went to Marseille."

A potential stumbling block to a January transfer is Marseille's surprise progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League, which could see the forward commit to the club until the summer.

Despite playing down the prospect of January moves, Redknapp has been linked with Blackburn pair Chris Samba and Junior Hoilett and Newcastle striker Demba Ba.
